Anna’s Adventures in Edibles – Week 1

Introduction:

Anna’s Adventures in Edibles is going to be a new series of blog posts! Every 2 weeks I will post pictures with reviews/ratings, a definition of how the garden is doing/what it is like, do’s and do not’s from my experience, and finally any new plants or deaths of plants! I think this will be a lot of fun to post about, and I hope you enjoy my posts too!

 Today’s Definition:

Exciting – Causing great enthusiasm and eagerness!

Why:

(IN 4 words or less)
  • New Plants…
  • Unique things to grow!
  • Interesting foods to cook with!

Reviews:

OVER ALL STARS – **** (4 1/2 STARS)

DIRTINESS (I got) – **** (4 stars) = I hopefully didn’t stain the pair of riding pants I had on… 😐
BUDDING – * (1 star) = only the Sugar  Plant is kind of budding!
GROWTH – 0 STARS = Everything just got planted!

Do’s and do not’s:

  1. DON’T: Wear nice riding pants, you will get them way dirtier then you thought!
  2. DO: When you buy a plant make sure the label is detailed about how much space the plant needs (I might have given them WAY more space than they needed)!
  3. DO: Create a reminder system or something that will remind you when to prune/water/take care of your plants (I have forgotten to water some of my plants in the past… Oops)!

Pictures!

These are the plants before they are planted!

These are my new plants! The one on the far left is cucumber lemon, after that is a peanut plant, sweet yellow bell peppers, strawberry spinach, sugar plant, and finally lady lavender!

Hi Anna, what a good idea. I would like to hear more about the peanut plant. I never planted peanuts. I also will try this year to plant some herbs. I don’t have much room for anything else. love and hugs Grandma Natalie

    Hi Anna,

I want to know about the Strawberry Spinach plant. What IS that?

    Love Mom

I loved your dos and don’ts, they are very helpful! I can’t wait to see your plants grow!

I love this idea for a series of blog posts, as well, and I’m really looking forward to hearing more about your adventure in edibles! I love gardening, but I am truly terrible at it, so I could really use some pointers. I agree with your mom and Grandma Natalie – If you’ll allow me two votes, I would love to hear more about the peanut plant (how cool is that!) and the strawberry spinach (never heard of it but it combines two of my favorites, so it must be delicious!).

    Anna

Given the dogs’ affection for peanut butter, are the peanuts going to be safe in the ground? Any research on that? I didn’t think of it before.
