Pawfect Endings News Brief #2 : On Being Humane and Pawfect Endings’ Plans

Did you know that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals estimates that 1.2 million dogs are euthanized each year in open door shelters in the U.S? Even the Peninsula Humane Society, which seems to be a no-kill shelter, put down 7 TREATABLE dogs and 337 Non-treatable dogs in 2015. When people bring animals into open door shelters there is a risk of them getting killed. Pawfect Endings has ideas to rescue and help prevent all animals from entering into kill shelters.

Here’s the thing… a huge amount of dogs are surrendered to shelters when their owners move and can’t take them along.   When people move, they almost always give up their dog to a kill shelter, said a representative from Pets in Need,  a no-kill animal shelter in Redwood City, CA.  Pawfect Endings has an idea to rescue them!  We will go to kill shelters and take in friendly dogs that need homes.  Then, with help from the community, we will adopt them out to loving, life long, and forever homes.

People have many reasons why they have to give up their pet.  When people don’t have enough money to support their pet, they cannot provide training, veterinary care and necessary supplies.  Pawfect Endings will create communities to help pet owners attain those necessities.  Online donations, fundraising activities and corporate partnerships will help us to create financial support for pet owners in need.  By communicating with shelters where people frequently surrender their dogs and connecting with organizations that help people in underserved communities, we will be able to bring these resources to them.

Pawfect Endings wants to prevent animals from entering into open door shelters, and rescue those already there.  I could say “there are too many humans” so should humans be killed like other animals are being killed? That is not humane, and the word humane comes from the word human. Humans can fix the problem of killing millions of animals and Pawfect Endings will help do it!

Great picture of Daphne. I really liked the end how you talked about the root of “humane”, which was a nice way to tie up your fantastic writing.

I never really knew that when people move they often send their dog to a kill shelter. i just always assumed people wouldn’t want to let go of their pets. Thank you for helping me understand that!
