On my first flute recital I played a song and I got lost in the music so I re-played and didn’t play some parts of the song. I was really upset with myself and I was really sad. My Mom e-mailed my teacher saying I thought I did badly. In a few days, we got an e-mail back with some compliments and this quote:
“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among starts.”
– Les Brown
And ever since, this quote has always meant a lot to me and it also reminds me of that day.

Hi Anna,
It’s so funny — we all thought you played beautifully that day. I had no idea, until afterward, that you “messed up”. It sounded wonderful to my ears. And, now knowing the experience from your perspective, I have great respect for your resolve. You were the picture of grace and I’m very proud of you.
